Our experience

Golspie Beach, Sutherland

There are some beaches that are all about big attractions and busy summer days, and then there are beaches that are simply somewhere to slow down and enjoy being by the sea. Golspie Beach was definitely one of those places for me.

I arrived early, at around 8:30am, and the beach was incredibly quiet. There was hardly anyone around, the sun was already beaming down and it was surprisingly warm for so early in the morning. Having the beach feeling almost completely deserted made it feel like I had the whole place to myself.

Walking Along the Shore

I spent some time walking along the shoreline, taking in the scenery and looking through the sand and stones for anything interesting.

I was particularly keeping an eye out for shells and unusual stones to bring home for my son. Finding interesting stones is something he really enjoys, so I wanted to see if I could find something special for him.

Eventually I found one of the whitest white stones I'd come across, and it immediately stood out to me. It was exactly the sort of thing I had been hoping to find and one I knew he'd love.

Taking Time to Enjoy the View

Further along the beach I found some large rocks where I could sit for a while. I stopped there and simply took in the scenery around me.

With the sun shining, the sea stretching out in front of me and hardly anyone else around, it was one of those peaceful moments where there was no real reason to be anywhere else.

I wasn't rushing to get somewhere or trying to tick another attraction off a list. I could just sit, look out across the water and enjoy being there.

What I Liked Most

What I loved most about Golspie Beach was how peaceful it felt during my visit. Arriving early meant I got to experience it at its quietest, and the combination of the sunshine, warm weather and almost empty beach made it feel really special.

It's also the little things I'll remember, like searching through the shoreline for a stone to bring home for my son and finding one that was exactly what I was looking for.

Would I Visit Again?

Absolutely.

Wildly Wandering rating: 5/5 ⭐

Golspie Beach was one of those places that didn't need anything complicated to make it memorable. A beautiful coastline, good weather, a quiet beach and time to simply stop and take in the scenery were more than enough.

Wildly Wandering tip: If you want a peaceful experience, try arriving early. Having the beach almost to yourself made my visit even more enjoyable and gave me the chance to properly slow down and enjoy the coastline.
