A Night Beside the Water
During my trip to Pitlochry, I spent the night wild camping close to Black Spout Waterfall. Throughout the night, I could hear the water rushing nearby, creating a wonderfully calming soundtrack as I settled down surrounded by nature.
There was something lovely about falling asleep to the sound of flowing water, away from the usual distractions of everyday life. By morning, I was looking forward to exploring the woodland and finally seeing the waterfall itself.
Through the Autumn Woodland
The following morning, I took the short walk through Black Spout Woods towards the waterfall viewpoint. The forest was looking beautiful, with the trees changing into shades of gold, orange and brown.
What made the walk even more special was having the entire place to myself. I didn't see another person along the way, and for a little while, it genuinely felt as though I was completely alone in the world.
After around 15 minutes of wandering through the woodland, I arrived at the viewpoint.
The Spectacular Black Spout Waterfall
Reaching the viewing platform was the highlight of the morning. Black Spout Waterfall was an incredible sight, with water plunging into the rocky gorge below, surrounded by woodland and beautiful autumn colours.
The waterfall has a drop of approximately 60 metres, making it an impressive sight tucked away amongst the trees. After listening to rushing water throughout the night, finally seeing the waterfall was a wonderful moment.
I spent some time admiring the view before retracing my steps through the forest. The return walk took around 15 minutes, completing a lovely little half-hour outing.
Black Spout is somewhere I'd definitely recommend visiting, particularly during autumn. It was a relatively short walk, but the peaceful woodland and spectacular waterfall made it one of my favourite stops around Pitlochry.
