A Beautiful Drive from Pitlochry
During my trip to Pitlochry, I headed towards Queen's View, one of Highland Perthshire's most famous viewpoints. The drive itself was absolutely beautiful, with winding roads leading through wooded hills and some incredible countryside scenery.
On arriving at the visitor centre, I decided to explore the gift shop before heading to the viewpoint. There was a lovely selection of gifts and souvenirs, and I was told that many of the products were made locally, which was a nice touch and a great way to support local makers.

Spectacular Views Across Loch Tummel
From the car park, it was only a short walk to the viewpoint, but the scenery waiting at the end was incredible.
Looking out across Loch Tummel, I was greeted by a beautiful panorama of water stretching between forest-covered hills, with mountains rising in the distance.
The distinctive shape of Schiehallion, one of Scotland's famous Munros, can be seen beyond the loch. The combination of the water, surrounding woodland and Highland hills made this one of the most memorable viewpoints of my Pitlochry trip.
It's easy to understand why Queen's View is so popular. Despite being just a short walk from the car park, the scenery feels wonderfully expansive, with so much to admire across the landscape.
Why Is It Called Queen's View?
There's an interesting piece of royal history behind the name. When Queen Victoria visited in 1866, she believed the viewpoint had been named in her honour.
However, historical tradition suggests the name actually refers to Isabella of Mar, the first wife of Robert the Bruce, who lived more than 500 years earlier.
Although the precise origins of the name remain uncertain, both royal associations add an interesting story to this already spectacular location.
A View Worth Visiting
Queen's View was a wonderful stop during my Pitlochry adventure. From the beautiful drive and interesting little gift shop to the spectacular scenery overlooking Loch Tummel, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
It's definitely somewhere I'd recommend adding to a Highland Perthshire itinerary, especially if you enjoy scenic drives and viewpoints without needing a long hike.
