Our experience

Red Squirrel Campsite is honestly one of my favourite campsites. What I love most about it is that it manages to give you that feeling of wild camping while still having all the facilities you actually need.

The setting is a huge part of what makes this campsite so special. Surrounded by incredible mountain scenery, it feels like you are properly immersed in the landscape rather than staying on a typical campsite. There is a real sense of being out in nature, which is exactly what I look for when camping.

The campsite has a huge number of pitches, including some fantastic spots right alongside the river. Being able to camp so close to the water, with the mountains surrounding you, makes the whole experience feel much more wild and remote.

It is also a brilliant base for exploring everything that Glencoe has to offer. There are so many walks, viewpoints, attractions and places to explore nearby, making it easy to spend the day out adventuring before returning to your pitch in the evening.

The campsite apparently also gets the occasional deer visitor. I have stayed here twice now and, unfortunately, I have not managed to see any yet. Maybe next time!

Another thing I really like about Red Squirrel Campsite is the food truck on site. After spending the day out exploring Glencoe, having somewhere right at the campsite to grab some food is a fantastic bonus.

On one of my visits, I had a cheeseburger from the food truck and I genuinely think it was one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever had. There is something particularly satisfying about getting back to camp after a day outdoors, surrounded by mountains, and being able to sit down with a really good burger without having to pack everything away and drive somewhere.

For me, that is what makes Red Squirrel Campsite such a great place to stay. It gives you that balance between feeling adventurous and still being comfortable. You get the atmosphere and surroundings that make it feel almost like wild camping, while still having the facilities and little extras that make camping easier.

I have now stayed at Red Squirrel twice, and both times I have loved it. The location, the scenery, the river, the atmosphere and the fact that it is such a great base for exploring Glencoe all make it somewhere I would happily return to.

Two visits down, deer sightings still at zero. Maybe next time.
