Dog friendlyDog friendly campsite.
Child friendlyChild friendly, although there are cliffs beyond the gated perimeter fence, so children should be supervised around the site boundaries.
AccessibleThe campsite itself is very accessible, although reaching the beach involves a fairly steep climb down.
PitchesTouring pitches need to be booked well in advance, while the other grass pitches are available on a first-come, first-served basis. I arrived relatively late and was lucky that there was still space available, so this is something worth keeping in mind if you're planning a late arrival. There are also electric hookup pitches available.

Our experience

There are some campsites where the facilities are the main attraction, and then there are campsites where the location completely steals the show. Sango Sands is definitely one of the latter.

Located in Durness, Sango Sands has spectacular sea views across the entire campsite, and that was one of my favourite things about staying here. Waking up in my TentBox and being able to look out at the sea was a pretty special experience.

Touring pitches need to be booked well in advance, while the other grass pitches are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. I arrived relatively late and was lucky enough to find that there was still space, so if you're planning on arriving later in the day, it's worth bearing this in mind.

There are electric hook-up pitches available, and the facilities were another thing I really liked about the site. There's a dedicated toilet block and a separate shared shower block with plenty of spacious shower stalls. There's also a separate family shower area, which is a useful addition for families.

Reception is open until 8pm, which is particularly handy for anyone arriving later in the day, and there's also a breakfast bar on site.

The campsite is dog friendly and child friendly, although there are cliffs beyond the gated perimeter fence, so children would obviously need to be supervised around the boundaries.

The campsite itself is very accessible, although getting down to the beach involves a fairly steep climb. Once you're down there, though, you're rewarded with the incredible coastal scenery that makes this part of Scotland so special.

There's also a SPAR shop just a few minutes' walk away, which is really convenient for picking up those last-minute essentials.

But honestly, it's the setting that I'll remember most. Durness as a whole is one of the most scenic places I've ever visited, and Sango Sands is perfectly positioned to enjoy it.

I really enjoyed my stay here, and sitting in my TentBox looking out over the sea was one of those little camping moments that makes you want to stay longer.

Would I Stay Again?

Absolutely.
